Nonfiction Rewriting
IT Company Webpage. An IT and computer-repair business hired me to do a combination of original writing and polishing for their website. As part of that work, I took a page they already had, and changed it to increase readability and better convey their message.
ESL Rewriting
I have rewritten texts composed by people for which English is a second language. My goal is to keep their voices intact, while removing elements that might distract the reader. Let me know if you would like to learn more about this.
Product Description on Amazon. Many product pages on Amazon and elsewhere have great pictures and might be selling legitimate products, but their descriptions are confusing, incomplete, or hard to read. I rewrote this description to make it sound more clear and natural.
Making Writing More Approachable
Editing a Corporate Letter. A CEO wanted to send a letter to his employees describing the benefits package they would receive. He asked for suggestions on how to make it sound personal and caring. In this letter, the company jargon for employees is “Fins.”
Editing a Job Post. An insurance agency wanted to hire new customer service representatives. The job post they started with was incomplete and boilerplate. They asked me to fill it out and make it more personable.
Instructional Guide Writing
Make Masks at Home. After making artwork for many years, I wrote this guide to sum up what I have learned, and convey it to others. This book shows my straightforward writing style.
Fiction Writing
Sci-Fi Short Story. I published this story in Teleport Magazine. Some experiences I had working in a hydroponic greenhouse inspired me to write it.
In 2020, I published another sci-fi story in The Weird and Whatnot magazine, under a pseudonym.
Adventures of a Bowling Shoe. This is a gritty humor book I wrote with black-and-white illustrations, after getting inspired by some workplace experiences.
Is This My Shoe? I had the idea for a lighthearted story involving animal shoes, and wanted to make a book with color illustrations, so I wrote this.
Experimental Fiction. I wrote this all the way back in 2017. In this story, the impact of a world-changing event–and how someone’s priorities change in response–is shown entirely through shopping lists.
Comedy Ad Scripts
I have worked with a large ecommerce company writing comedy ad scripts for their marketing campaigns. Most of them involve quirky characters and products that are in unusual situations. Let me know if you would like to learn more about these scripts.
Fiction Editing
Flash Fiction. Here’s a very short piece. I thought it had an interesting denouement, however it was quite difficult to read because of its formatting. I changed this and made a few tweaks here and there for clarity.
Humorous Sci-Fi. Here are some edits and comments I made for a humorous science fiction story.
Proofreading and Commentary. Here is the beginning of a longer story that I proofread, while also giving the author some comments.
